Economic blues? Crist says ‘Go to Disney’

The recent economic maelstrom, with the offering of phrases like "not since the Great Depression" and "historic collapse," poses a stern challenge for the most indefatigable optimist.

Enter Gov. Charlie Crist, the state's cheery chief executive.

Asked Tuesday if he supported the "bailout" plan that the U.S. House rejected on Monday, Crist demurred.

"They need to work in a bipartisan fashion, whatever it is, to do what's right for the American people to make sure that we stabilize the economy, to make sure that people don't panic ..."

Crist then encouraged Floridians to carry on their daily lives, and maybe take a local vacation.

"We have a lot to celebrate. We have challenges. I mean, my word, everybody understands that. I think it's awfully important that we continue to go about our daily lives. We open our doors. We go to work. We do our business. We go to school. And we go to the Rays (game) on Thursday and Friday. I mean, we just keep pressing forward ... Go to Disney World. Go to the beach in Destin if you can't travel out of state. We've got to continue to live our lives and do well and work hard and do the fundamentals."

Daily admission for a family of four to Disney World is about $250. Rays playoff tickets in the nosebleed section cost a minimum of $55 each at stubhub.com on Wednesday and some were offered for hundreds of dollars.
