Post-election `Interfaith Peace Concert' set for Munger Place UMC

The event at the historic church on East Dallas will be this Saturday. Here's a press release with details:

DALLAS--"Many Faiths, One Nation" is the theme for the fall Interfaith Peace Concert hosted by Munger Place United Methodist Church, 5200 Bryan Street (at Greenville Avenue), Dallas, Sat., Nov. 8, 2008, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. The purpose of the program is to promote peace, unity, and diversity through a celebration of the arts. The program is open to the public. Suggested donation is $10.

Representatives of many faiths will give presentations reflecting the value of peace. They include David Neal and Nina Red Cherries (Native American Traditional); Kalachanji's Temple (Hindu/Hare Krishna); Ordered Steps (Christian Praise Dance); Pan-African Spiritual Orkestra (Traditional African); Shirat Halley Chorus (Jewish); and Cantares Chilean Ensemble. The event will culminate with a unity ceremony.

Organizers of the Interfaith Peace Concert said the date was purposely selected in order to be a sign of "peace and unification" after the 2008 presidential election.

"One significant feature of the Interfaith Peace Concert is when it will be held." said Ernest McMillan, program chairman. "It is immediately after the 2008 presidential election.
"As a nation, we've gone through very tough and hard fought campaigns. Regardless of the election outcomes, we are still one nation. We need the strength, wisdom and faith to come together and be as One. This is the major reasoning for the gathering."

"We are extremely proud to host our second peace concert," said the Rev. L. Charles Stovall, senior pastor of Munger Place United Methodist Church. "It comes at a time when our nation needs healing and wholeness. It is an opportunity for us to share through music, dance and spoken word.
