Larry the Cable Guy to make Corbin debut
While construction crews and city leaders working on the Corbin expo center continue trying to "Git-r-done," tickets will be going on sale this week for a show starring America's favorite redneck, Larry The Cable Guy.
Expo Center Manager Cliff Clinger made an during Monday's regular monthly meeting of the Corbin City Commission that Larry will be playing a show on April 24, 2009 at the as-yet-named arena at the David L. Williams Southeastern Kentucky Agricultural and Exposition Complex.
Clinger said tickets will be going on sale this Friday (Dec. 12) online at Ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are $44 each.
For the time being, Clinger said tickets are only available online and via phone, but there are plans in the works to get a temporary box office in the Corbin Tech Center, just below the expo center.
When the expo center gets closer to completion tickets will also be available the Kroger's on Falls Highway in Corbin and a Kroger's in London, per an agreement with Ticketmaster, Clinger said.
During the first four days of ticket sales -- Dec. 12 through Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. -- select tickets will be part of what promoters -- in keeping with Larry's blue collar theme -- are calling a "Economic Recovery Package". These select tickets will be available two for the price of one.
Larry the Cable Guy, who's real name is Dan Whitney, is a comedian originally from Pawnee City, Nebraska famous for his catch phrases, "Git-r-done" and "Lord, I apologize." Larry may have been born in Nebraska, but much of his act both pokes fun at and celebrates redneck culture.
He's also well known for his stint with Jeff Foxworthy's Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which proved not only to be a success on the road, but has also sold more than 1 million copies on DVD.
In 2002, two years after Larry joined the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, cable TV station Comedy Central began airing the Blue Collar Comedy Tour Movie and saw the network's highest ratings in its 12 year history. All this despite having sold more than a million copies on DVD.
