Texas Family is Up for Sale on Ebay

A Cedar Park family is on the Ebay auction block, looking for the highest bidder. After a recent lay-off, the dad is hoping to get corporate sponsorship for his family. On the family's Ebay page it says, "let us represent you and be your brand ambassadors." They believe this is a unique and more personal way to target the American consumer and they're hoping there's a company out there that agrees.

"All-American family seeks corporate sponsor. It's an idea I've been throwing around for a while," said husband and father of three, Loren Guerra, who has put his family on Ebay.

"I just thought he was either super creative or crazy. I don't know which one! We wanted to do something as a family that we could kind of bring everyone together and see what we could do to do something for fun, out of the box and novel and hopefully something we could do to help out financially," Guerra said.

He says little league teams and Nascar get sponsorship, so why not families?

"We'll wear your brand, we'll preach your brand, we'll be your family brand and basically do something that's never been done before," Guerra said.

Loren was recently laid off from his job as an IT recruiter and his wife is a stay-at-home mom. With three young kids running around, he needs a way to bring in some income. With the way the economy is today, you really have to think outside the box. The family says they're spreading the word by using social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. They say their idea has already created some buzz.

As for the responses on Ebay, there haven't been too many bids yet. They've set the bid reserve at $50,000.The minimum bid is equivalent to a mid-range salary.

"The way I see it is, there are five of us here. Five brand ambassadors," Guerra said.

Loren thinks there's got to be a company out there willing to pay for this kind of marketing. Make it a little more personal and not just have a commercial out there but people living it and showing it. There have only been five bids so far, current bid is at 10.50, a long way to go before that $50,000 is met. source>>>
