This Day in History

On this date in 1945, a Japanese balloon bomb exploded on Gearhart Mountain in Oregon, killing the pregnant wife of a minister and five children. In 1961, Alan Shepard became the first American astronaut to travel into space. And May 5, 2000 saw an unusual planetary alignment , with Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn more or less positioned in a line with the Sun.
