Dentists use Halloween candy to talk oral health

For dentists, Halloween can be scary: All that sugary-sweet candy brings the possibility of deep, dark cavities.

But some dentists are using Halloween to encourage good oral health.

Three Metro Dentalcare offices are having a Halloween candy buyback. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 1, they'll pay $1 per pound of candy for children 12 and under who bring their candy in. They'll pay each child for up to five pounds of candy.

The kids who participate will get healthy snacks and a free toothbrush. There will also be a costume contest.

And the kids can feel good about giving up their sweets - the collected candy will go to Ronald McDonald House charities for other kids who couldn't go trick-or-treating.

The participating offices:

Metro Dentalcare Children's Dentistry, 14336 Burnhaven Dr., Burnsville

Metro Dentalcare Chanhassen, 7806 Market Blvd., Chanhassen

Metro Dentalcare Maple Grove, 15785 95th Ave. N., Maple Grove source>>>
