Large number of rockets have hit south Israel'
An Israeli military spokeswoman has said that approximately 20 rockets were fired Wednesday morning from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel.
The spokeswoman did not report casualties from the missiles, however.
Six Palestinians were killed in Gaza by Israeli troops Tuesday as Israelis and Palestinians clashed for the first time in five months.
One Palestinian was killed during a gun battle along the Israel-Gaza border when Palestinian fighters and Israeli forces confronted each other.
Five other Palestinians, apparently Hamas members, were killed hours later in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza. Residents have identified Mazen Saeda, a Hamas commander in central Gaza, as one of the people who was killed in the Israeli attack.
The Israeli army claimed its operation was aimed at bombing a tunnel 250 meters within Gaza. It claimed Hamas militants planned to use the tunnel to kidnap Israeli soldiers.
A spokesman for the military wing of Hamas, Abu Obeida, said that Hamas would seek revenge for the casualties. "Our response will be harsh, and the enemy will pay a heavy price," Hamas said in a statement. source>>>
