Christian worker gunned down in Kabul, Taliban claim responsibility for the murder
A spokesman with Voice of the Martyrs says the recent murder of a Christian aid worker in Afghanistan is another example of the daily dangers that believers face in Muslim nations.
On Monday morning, 34-year-old Gayle Williams was shot to death by gunmen as she walked to her office in Kabul. Williams worked with the aid group Serve, or Serving Emergency Relief and Vocational Enterprises. Terrorists with the Taliban claimed responsibility for the murder, saying Williams was targeted because she was spreading her religion.
Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) spokesman Todd Nettleton says tensions are increasing throughout the area. "It seems like the Taliban is really making a concerted effort to get back in a position of influence all over Afghanistan," he explains. "The safety situation has gone downhill pretty dramatically over the last 12 months. Kidnappings are up; violent attacks are up."
Williams, of British and South African nationality, worked with handicapped Afghans. Her mother told the Evening Standard in London that her daughter was serving a people that she loved. "She died doing what she felt the Lord had called her [to] and she is definitely with him," she shared.
Serve Afghanistan released a statement on its website saying: "Gayle will be remembered as one of the inspiring people of the world. She was killed violently while caring for the most forgotten people in the world; the poor and the disabled. She was where she wanted to be, holding out a helping hand to those in need." source>>>
